Apologies for anyone receiving this from other mail lists. I believe it represents a seminal
moment for opensource software (Chime never was such).
>Dear Colleagues,

>Eric Martz and I are happy to announce version 2 of the BioMolecular Explorer 3D web site, (designed to supplement a secondary school biology curriculum) which uses Jmol in place of Chime to present macromolecular structures and tutorials. This simplifies the process of using the resources in teaching by eliminating the browser restrictions and software download and installation steps associated with Chime. To visit the site, go to

>The original 11 molecules selected for the site are now presented in FirstGlance in Jmol. The site has been expanded to include links to some general categories, such as proteins, carbohydrates and lipids, as presented by the Biomodel web site of Angel Herraez (who also kindly converted the DNA tutorial to Jmol). A few tutorials that use Chime and have not yet been adapted for Jmol can still be accessed at version 1 of the site (linked from the BME3D Welcome page).

A number of vendors advertise their meetings on listservers (and indeed
I post them on http://warr.com/meetings.html, if I am notified) so I am
taking the liberty of drawing subscribers attention to this one which I
think is not likely to be posted by the vendor.
Registration is open for the Elsevier MDL European Users Group 2007
meeting to be held in Strasbourg, France on February 26 and 27.

The theme is "delivering innovation on a solid foundation": using proven
technologies to improve R&D productivity by integrating workflow and
content throughout the value chain. This year, the program has been
streamlined into just two days of packed programming and networking, and
includes a keynote presentation given by Dr. Kurt Wüthrich, the
recipient of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, plenary talks from
customers and Elsevier MDL staff (note that there are more user talks
than MDL talks), scheduled product demonstrations, a welcome reception
and a conference dinner at La Cour de Honau.
Day 1
Lars Barfod - President and CEO, Elsevier MDL
Dr. Kurt Wüthrich - Nobel Prize Laureate
Dr. Holger Shimanski - Bayer Business Services
Dr. Hanoch Senderowicz - Predix Pharmaceuticals
Dr. Ulrich Jordis - Technische Universität Vienna
Dr. Phil McHale - VP, Solutions Product Management, Elsevier MDL
Mr. Gaerd Pauwels, European Patent Office
Dr. Paolo Pevarello - CNIO Madrid
Day 2
Dr. Trevor Heritage, Chief Scientific Officer, Elsevier MDL
Dr. Thomas Arnhold - Boehringer Ingelheim
Dr. Luca Sartori (Genextra)
