Hi,
The first MOTM for the year 2001 is also the first one to be written by a
school. It's Lead Tetra-ethyl, (the petrol additive) and has been written
by Simon Cotton of Uppingham School in Rutland. All 4 versions
(HTML-only, Chime, Chemsymphony & VRML) are availavle.

Dear list members,
I want to monitor the starch hydrolysis products using InfraRed or Near InfraRed?
But I don't know how. Can you give some advice or tell me where can i find
information about that on the net?
Your reply will be highly appreciated!
Thank you very much in advance!
Sincerely,

December 3rd, 1990 seems to be the date acknowledged as the
"birth" of the Web. Falling on this Sunday, it seems a date worth
noting!
The chemical web we think started around December 1992, so it
is 8 years old.

Unfortunately, the official job ad which I just posted included the main IU
URL instead of the School of Informatics home page. Here is the School of
Informatics page:

Indiana University's School of Informatics on the Bloomington and
Indianapolis campuses invites applications for tenure-track positions,
primarily at the assistant professor rank. Senior rank will be considered
for applicants with recognized national and international stature. Rank will
be determined on the basis of qualifications and experience. This is the
first new school at Indiana University in 28 years, and one of the very
first new schools in the country dedicated exclusively to informatics,
understood as the application of information technology to problems in
various disciplines. At both Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) and
Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), the school offers
a B.S. in Informatics and M.S. degrees in bio- and chemical informatics. On
the Bloomington campus the school also offers an M.S. degree in
Human-Computer Interaction. On the IUPUI campus, the school offers both a
B.S. and an M.S. in New Media and an M.S. in Health informatics. More
information about the new school may be found at
http://www.informatics.indiana.edu.
This is an excellent opportunity for faculty interested in building new
academic programs in a dynamic environment. Applicants should be able to
teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in informatics, which
could include mathematical foundations of information, organizational
informatics, social informatics, distributed information and knowledge
systems, human-computer interaction, and new media. Applicants with a
background in computer and/or information science are encouraged to apply as
well as those who have knowledge of best practices in the application of
information technology to a particular discipline such as biology,
chemistry, health sciences, journalism, telecommunications or fine arts.
(This list is not exclusive.) Joint appointments with campus units in the
applicants' specialties are possible.
Applicants at the assistant professor level should have a promising agenda
of scholarly research or creative activity and demonstrated commitment to
teaching. Senior applicants should have evidence of outstanding research and
excellent teaching. Preference will be given to those with a completed Ph.D.
or the equivalent or appropriate terminal degree.
Applicants should send a letter of application outlining their
qualifications, a curriculum vitae, and a list of three references (for
senior applicants, a list of six references). A sample of written work and
evidence of quality teaching are welcome additions.
